Why

Our Goals:

LINC Redwood County Goals:

  • To Create Leaders and Followers
Not everyone wants to be a leader. Heck, being a leader can be really scary! This is why our goal is to create not only great leaders but great followers to create a sustainable future for Redwood County.
  • Help people see the value in community participation
There is a great need for community participation in our rural area. According to Ben Winchester's research on The Leadership Gap, "During the last census period in the U.S., while the population increased 10 percent, the number of non-profits increased 32 percent. These non-profits and government agencies reflect the need for leadership, for the need for people to step up and serve. "You may or may not have noticed in the last set of elections, there was a gap between the number of positions available and the number of folks willing to serve. There were communities in our county that lacked participants to run for city offices and much more. LINC Redwood County will help people to see the value in community participation.
  • Build a shared vision to shape opportunities throughout the county
Creating a shared vision for our county will set the path for the future. LINC Redwood County is about building this future together.
  • Strengthen existing leaders in Redwood County
This program will strengthen existing leaders by further developing professional and personal skills to help them guide others. Not only do these skills allow participants to be better leaders but they also allow participants to be better employees, co-workers, friends, parents, partners and more.
  • Better understanding of connections between us
We have more in common than we have differences and sometimes all it takes is learning what our neighbors down the road are doing to help solve some of the struggles that we may be facing in our own communities.
  • Mobilize the next generation
Because of The Leadership Gap, many of our leaders are feeling fatigue. Mobilizing the next generation of leaders will not only bring in fresh ideas but also renew our existing leadership.
  • Create awareness of county assets
Redwood County has an amazing number of assets. However, many of us lack the awareness for these assets and are unable to utilize them because of it. LINC Redwood County will bring participants a greater awareness of the things that make our county unique and the assets that are available to them to do great things.
  • Help people develop applicable skills for personal and professional growth
Not only will LINC Redwood County offer professional development by the University of Minnesota Extension, but it will also help participants develop skills for personal growth. Learn more about these leadership topics here.
